Close GalleryThe 20 hectares (50 acres!) of grounds surrounding the house are delightful. You arrive at Mas Montagnette via a long alley of plane trees, southern France's famous platanes that were historically planted by Napoleon's army to protect his troops from the heat of the sun as they marched. We were unlucky with the weather when we took our photos; usually it looks even more beautiful and rich in colour. -
Close GalleryThe pond (or lake, no-one's really sure where the line is drawn between the two terms!) set in the grounds, just a hundred metres from the house, is a simply wonderful setting for appreciating the absolute peace and quiet you get at Mas Montagnette. -

Close GalleryThe 16 x 5 metre pool isn't coated with white or light blue paint, unlike most pools, blending in perfectly with its natural surroundings. It is salt-treated, as opposed to chlorine, so it doesn't sting when it gets in your eyes , and doesn't trigger allergic reactions. There are of course more sunloungers available. To the right of this picture, you can see some of the ancient trees in the olive grove - if you've already visited the Mediterranean area, you know just how rare olive trees this size are! -
Close GalleryThe house is articulated in a U-shape around this pretty, sheltered courtyard, with the main kitchen just behind the French windows at the back, so you can still eat outdoors even when the Mistral is blowing. -

Because of the layout of the mas, this room can be reached though the interior using a wide staircase with railing to the first floor. However it can also be accessed on the exterior and there are no steps, but it is about 20 - 30 meter walk from the rest of the mas. -
