Villa Medici, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence - Sleeps 8

Villa Medici is one of our many villas in Provence, in St Remy.

The Villa Medici is a spacious 18th century stone mas (farmhouse) less than one mile from St Rémy-de-Provence, an easy 15 minute walk. The lovely villa has been restored and modernized but preserves its original Provençal character; materials used in the restoration include ancient beans, terra cotta tiles on the floors, and traditional bleached woodwork. It is rare to find an authentic 18th century mas, modernized, and on the rental market.

The villa has 6 bedrooms (3 en-suite), 2 additional bathrooms and ideally sleeps 8 guests. There is also a small room on the kitchen end of the house that would be good for a nanny.

The 2 story villa has superb, wide-open and unobstructed views onto the Alpilles. The 5 H (12 acre) totally enclosed property also includes a large lawn—wonderful for the kids to play-- an olive grove, cypress trees, a 12 * 7 m (36 x 21 ft) pool and pool house. The terrace with its enormous platane (plane tree) shading the mas provides a wonderful setting for your breakfast, lunch, evening drinks or meal.

Villa in St Remy de Provence, Eygalieres, south of France.

St-Rémy-de-Provence is perhaps the most beautiful small town in Provence. Post World War II, it was an agricultural area, specialising in flower seeds and sheep, but now is known as a sophisticated country town with some of the best local commerce Provence has to offer, and with a wonderful, central location.

There are many sites in St Rémy: the very important Roman ruins at Glanum; the rue Hoche, a tiny street where French-Jewish doctor and astronomer Nostradamus was born in 1503. Don’t forget the colourful Wednesday market which is well known all over Provence. Vincent van Gogh spent most of the last year of his life here, at the St.Paul de Maussole Clinic, and painted over 150 paintings.
