l'Auberge de Gordes is situated on a minor road leading out of the back of the village but well elevated off the road. There is a sign at the end of the road directing anyone other than residents away from approaching Gordes via our road. So although there is some local traffic there is not any congestion. The main road leading into and out of Gordes is the other side of the village.
The village of Gordes, classified as one of France's most beautiful villages, is perched on the rocks above the house. L'Auberge de Gordes enjoys complete privacy, yet is just a five minute stroll from the beautiful village of Gordes, which dominates the local landscape.
The upper level of the garden is an old olive grove, which provides plenty of room for the older kids to play. Eveyone needs to careful though since the garden is uneven.
This also an ideal place to relax and read the latest novel. Come to think of it, you could read Peter Mayle's 'A Good Year', written about a Londoner who inherits his uncle's wine estate in the Luberon. Mr. Mayle's first book was the international blockbuster "A Year in Provence."
"A Good Year" was made into a film by director Ridley Scott, and starred Russell Crowe and Marion Cotillard. You might enjoy touring the film locations and the "behind the scenes" locations where the stars and crew enjoyed themselves after hours.
The interior of houses in Provence concentrate on keeping cool, so you can escape from the heat in the middle of the day. L'Auberge de Gordes has recently undergone an interior design make-over with this in mind.
The master bedroom is sumptuous. It has a super king size bed, plus there's a single antique day bed in the adjacent room for napping. It also has French doors opening on to a small balcony overlooking the olive grove
Below you see the twin bedroom that shares a bathroom with the double, also below. Both of these bedrooms are located on the first floor, and have views over the olive grove and beyond.
