You can even walk to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse and witness the river gushing up out of the ground from a deep cavernous pool, or meander along the clear waters of the river by kayak. Saumane-de-Vaucluse is the nearest village – it can be reached on foot and has an auberge restaurant and the impressive and imposing fortified Chateau de Saumane. The property is ideally placed for great cycling, and challenging fishing in the Sorgue, with the cool water of the river being the only prime trout stream in the hot, dry Mediterranean climate of Provence. There is great hiking on the tourist route to Gordes,on the way you could take in the history of medieval Lagnes with it’s ancient 14th Century walls. There are many beautiful walks through the unspoilt countryside to pretty villages, shady squares and terraces invite you to watch Provençal life unfold whilst sipping a cool aperitif. Goult, Rousillon and Ménerbes are all very accessible by car where you can wander through lavender fields, explore the hilltop perched villages, or drink in the spectacular views of the plains of the Luberon and the ochre coloured hills of Roussillon.
