Pernes-les-Fontaines is ideally located to explore and enjoy the department of Vaucluse. The Luberon National Park, with its picture postcard beauty and perched, hilltop villages is a 40 minute drive. Historic towns such as Avignon (with its amazing papal palace), Vaison la Romaine (with its Roman ruins) and Orange (with its complex history) are all within an easy drive.

The region includes many perched villages who have kept their traditional winding streets and ancient buildings such as Le Barroux, Crillon or Suzette. But also important market towns like Carpentras which are full of historical monuments and colourful stands.

Staying in a Just Provence luxury rental in Pernes-les-Fontaines means you will be in an independant cultural niche in the middle of Provence. The area is historically rich and offers fantastic hiking and cycling opportunities thanks to its natural features.

Comtat Venaissin is a very agricultural region famed in France for its fruits and olives, but is world reknown for its wines of course.

The old town is a delight to wander around, the architecture extraordinary with old walls and tours, churches, turrets, arches and alleyways. As the name implies Pernes-les-fontaines has a great collection of 32 18th-century fountains, and several of them are declared French historical monuments.

Pernes-les-Fontaines is very near the large town of Carpentras, once home to the Popes of Avignon. Carpentras has a fabulous Friday morning market and there is an antiques (brocante) market on Sunday. But if you prefer your antiques a bit finer Pernes is also very near the now-famous Isle-sur-la-Sorgue where there is the third largest antiques market in France.

Also close by is the village of Fontaine de Vaucluse where you can kayak, rock climb, walk the gentle trail to the water source and enjoy the gushing waters it sends down to the Sorgue river and beyond.

Near the small village of Saumane you'll find the Provence Country Club.
