This small village is home to well-heeled vacationers, as well as to French film and tv stars and other high wattage glitterati. To give you an idea of the prestige of this little village, European royals live and visit here. However, the town has retained its old style ambiance, which is one reason it is so attractive to visitors. -

Eygalières was a Roman town; the origin of the word “Eygalières” is the Latin AQUALERIA, place that collects water. Roman towns needed huge amounts of water, so in order to provide enough water to the important nearby Roman town of Arles, “the Gauls’ little Rome,” the abundant waters of AQUALERIA were sent by a mostly underground aqueduct to Arles. -

Eygalières has some interesting historical sites. From the center of the village walk up to see the vestiges of the medieval town: ramparts, ancient clock tower, windmill and chapel perched on top of the hill. Outside the town you can see the St. Sixte Chapel and the Alchemist's Garden. -

Eygalières has several wineries so you will enjoy trying these wines with meals or as an aperitif. Their rosés are especially good. You may even enjoy visiting a few wineries nearby, or elsewhere.
The famous Southern Côtes-du-Rhône vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape are only 45 minutes away, and Gigondas, Cairannne, Vacqueryas and Beaumes-de-Venise just a little farther.
The Ventoux appellation, centered on the Mont Ventoux of Tour de France fame, has a lot of vineyards;. The Mont Ventoux area is really the "countryside" with small wineries dotted around, and charming little bistros where you can have a relaxing lunch in the shadow of the "Giant of Provence." -
