Close GalleryThe property is named after the famous 'Grenache' grape variety, which every bottle of Gigondas
red wine is required to have as a majority of grapes. For those of you interested in such things, Grenache must make up at least 50%, and up to a maximum of 80% of planted vines on a domaine in Gigondas. Syrah and/or Mourvedre vines must then make up at least a further 15% of the production. A few other Rhône varietals are also allowed. For the final blending the winemaker can use the quantities that he or she prefers. All Images are © Copyright Emotional Escapes Ltd.

Close GalleryThe entrance to La Grenache can be seen central left of this image. La Grenache is the highest property in the village of Gigondas. The bell tower that you see in the foreground belongs to the Saint-Cosme and St Damien Chapel, a Romanesque construction from the 12th century.

For your grocery shopping, there is a tiny "épicerie" in the village with a few basics, but most people go to Vaison-la-Romaine for shopping. Vaison has a famous Tuesday morning market, as well as several large grocery stores, butchers, cheese shop, organic groceries and many bakeries.

Close GalleryThe stunning Dentelles de Montmirail as seen from the chapel which overlooks Gigondas village.
'Dentelles' might have its origin in the French word "dents"--teeth--since the rocks resemble teeth, or from the word "denteler"- "notched." The region attracts loads of outdoor enthusiasts. It is possible to do a complete tour of the 'Dentelles' on foot, and the panoramic views from there are spectacular. There are lots of accompanied rope and climbing activities in the Dentelles. Biking is a popular sport as well, with the famous Mont Ventoux often the goal for a day's climb. All Images are © Copyright Emotional Escapes Ltd.

Close GalleryIt is easy to tell that the kitchen was designed by someone who loves to cook. The kitchen is equipped with a large induction cooktop, plus other high end Miele appliances, cookware and knives. Behind the door to the right is a back kitchen with another fridge/freezer, 2 large sinks, and a washer and dryer. In the foreground you see the owner's collection of 19th century 'pots à graisse' - terra cotta pots used to preserve duck cooked in its fat. The owner searched over many years to find appropriate antiques to decorate his home. He used them judiciously, as accent pieces, so they do not overwhelm the natural beauty of the home.

Close GalleryThe dining room has some highly coveted French antiques. The oak farm table is a very sought-after antique, and the 'pots à graisse' -formerly used to preserve duck in its fat in some regions - can be found in some antique shops at L'Isle sur la Sorgue, less than one hour away. Of course you will start out your stay with some excellent Gigondas wine. In the 19th century, before appellations developed in France, the wines from here were sent to Burgundy to put in the 'anemic' wines produced there.
