Market Day in Beaumes-de-Venise is Tuesday. There is a larger Friday market in the much larger town of Carpentras. We can also recommend the monday market in Bedoin.

The 16th-century church with its clock tower. The church was built in 1507; the campanile was added in the 19th century when the church was rebuilt.

The campanile in true Provencal style with its wrought-iron belfry to allow the wind to pass through it.

Beaumes-de-Venise is a refreshing tree-lined town that nestles beneath the rocky outcrop of the Dentelles' jagged edges. The word "beaumes" means caves or grottos. It's a beautiful village that bustles with just the right amount of energy. More than a sleepy hamlet but not quite a bustling town. It's as famous for its olive oils as it is for its better known wines. But it's also just a lovely place to be and relax in its shaded cafes and parks.

Besides all the wines there's actually a delightful village to explore! Several good restaurants, cafes, bars, small shops and some delightful walking to be experienced.

Beaumes-de-Venise is in the region of the Cötes de Rhöne wines and the appellation Cötes de Ventoux wines. It also has it's own appellation, Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise, one of France's most well known sweet white wines.

The region's vines are grown on the slopes around the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, an extraordinary vertical comb of rock jutting out of the plain between the Rhône river and the Luberon-Ventoux mountains.

Beaumes is famed for its natural fortified wine made from the Muscat grape, and records of its use go back almost two millennia. More recently it is also the producer of a high quality red wine. In 1943 the natural Sweet Beaumes de Venise Muscat was accorded its appellation contrôlée, to be followed in 1956 by an AOC for its Côtes du Rhône. The red, white and rosé wines were elevated to the appellation of Côtes du Rhône Villages AOC (named villages) in 1978, and in 2005 the greatest honor of all was bestowed on the sweet fortified wine when it became a cru - the highest order of the wines in the Rhône Valley.

Today, over 100 producers including fifteen domaines and a cooperative winery combine their efforts to maintain the highest standards and the centuries old reputation of the town and its wines

Staying ina luxury villa rental in Beaumes de Venise places you in the heart of Provence's wine producing region.

The village rests beneath the fabulous Dentelles de Montmirail. There are numerous grottos or caves making it a wonderful area to start or finish a hike.

Beaumes-de-Venise sits at the bottom of the Mont Ventoux in an area known as the Comtat Venaissin which was from 1274 until 1793, like Avignon, property of the popes.

Although not formed of a whole united geographical entity, it included mainly the valleys between Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail. Villages as far north as Montelimar and south as Bonnieux in the Luberon were also part of the Comtat.

The region includes many perched villages who have kept their traditional winding streets and ancient buildings such as Le Barroux, Crillon-le-Brave or Suzette. But also important market towns like Carpentras which are full of historical monuments and colourful stands.

Staying in a Just Provence luxury rental property in the Comtat Venaissin means you will be in a independant cultural niche in the middle of Provence. The area is historically rich and offers fantastic hiking and cycling opportunities thanks to its natural features.

It is a very agricultural region famed in France for its fruits and olives, but is world renowned for its wines of course.
