An aerial view of Eygalières with the majestic Mont Ventoux in the background.

Eygalières is where many celebrities spend pleasant, undisturbed holidays, far from the paparazzi on the coast. Located on the edge of the Alpilles (the little Alps of Provence), Eygalières offers fantastic views of sublime rocky outcroppings. Eygalières is a quiet and charming community made up of artists, farmers and tradesmen alike.

The Saint Sixte Chapel is a treasured, well-known example of Romanesque architecture in Provence, perched just a stone's throw from the village.

A glimpse of the ancient, hilltop village from one of the many tiny lanes leading to a number of properties.

Situated on the northern edge of the mountain chain, just 10 kilometres from Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Eygalières can be considered as one of the most beautiful village in the Alpilles.
At the hilltop site, you can see a statue of the Virgin Mary and a tower topped by a bell in a campanile. The statue of the Virgin was placed on the roof in 1893 to commemorate a miracle, and still appears to be protectively watching over the village.

One of the greatest things about visiting Eygalières is that parking places are easy to find - you can easily leave your vehicle at the bottom of the village, next to the new Saint-Laurent Church, built in 1905 in Romanesque Revival style. From there, a street leads past beautiful houses with carved doors – here, there are no pastel tones, everything is of limestone rock, in the image itself of the
Alpilles. After a bit of easy walking, you're at the top. Built in 1672 with stones taken from the former castle, the Clock Tower is the symbol of
Eygalières' independence. In 1660, by paying the ransom demanded for the Duke de Guise, the village lord taken hostage by the Spanish, the villagers acquired the seigneurial rights over their lands. The other edifice is the vestige of the 13th century castle keep of which only the vaulted ground floor still remains. The site offers you magnificent panoramas over the Alpilles and Provence surroundings. You can see two old mills, one of which, the Tour du Prieur, had the top
removed to become a pigeon coop. Eygalières is also well known for its Friday market day. The Provencal market takes up the full length of the main street, Rue de la République and south out the Ave des Molassis. You will be able to find there amazing and tasty Provencal products such as, olive oil, lavender, scented
soaps, baskets and touristy items. You will also find typical French cheese shop, butcher, boulangerie and the wonderful « Café de la Place ». Eygalières is for us one of the most beautiful village in Provence.

The Bar and Brasserie le Progres is right at the centre of the village; a very popular meeting point.

Eygalières has excellent local commerce in addition to its Friday market.
